P is for Prime Ministers

When a prime minister is elected by a public vote, The Queen has to meet him or her before he or she can start work. This is because The Queen is Head of State. The Queen hears all about what is happening in Parliament during weekly meetings or 'audiences' with the prime minister.

The Queen's first prime minister was Winston Churchill, who was also prime minister during the Second World War. Today's prime minister, Tony Blair, is the first to be born during The Queen's reign.
