Westminster Abbey and the Chapel Royal in St. James's Palace both have long historic associations with Royal marriages, christenings and funerals. They both played a part in the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.

The coffin of the Princess rested in the Chapel Royal in St James's Palace from the early hours of Monday, 1 September until the night of Friday, 5 September. On the morning of the funeral, the Princess's coffin was carried in a solemn procession to Westminster Abbey, where the funeral service took place.
