ROYAL PETS

From Queen Victoria's pugs to King George VI's yellow labrador retrievers, pets have played an important role in the private lives of the Royal Family for generations.

The Queen's love of animals has been life-long.  Her Majesty learned to ride as a young girl and has owned more than 30 corgis since being given her first pet corgi, Susan, as a present for her 18th birthday in 1944.

Today Her Majesty is one of the longest-established breeders of Pembroke corgis in the world.

September's Focus showcases Royal animals with a gallery of images of Royal pets past and present.
