THE QUEEN'S PROGRAMME

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh travelled extensively in the UK throughout 2002 in order to meet people in as many regions as possible. They also undertook visits to the Commonwealth, travelling to Jamaica, New Zealand and Australia in Spring 2002, and Canada in October 2002.

7-8 May North East of England (including Tyne and Wear and Durham)
7 May The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, opened Winter Gardens, Sunderland; opened Metro Link between Sunderland and Gateshead; visited St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Primary School, Jarrow; officially opened the Millennium Bridge; visit Baltic Centre; attended Gala event, City Hall, Newcastle.
8 May The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited Seaham, Easington, and Blackhall Rocks; visited Durham Castle; opened Millennium Place, Durham; visited Darlington. The Duke of Edinburgh presented Award Scheme Gold Awards at Peterlee, and visited Stockton Campus, Durham University
9 May The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited East London. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited Walthamstow, where the Mayor invited The Queen to present a number of Jubilee awards for outstanding civic achievement. The Queen travelled to Redbridge, where she viewed allotments. The Queen and The Duke attended a Reception at West Ham Football ground. The Queen visited Eastbury Manor House, Barking, to meetcraftsmen working on its restoration and representatives of local communities. Meanwhile, The Duke of Edinburgh visited the University of East London

24 May The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, opened the Jubilee Wheel at Millennium Link between Forth & Clyde and Union Canals, Falkirk; visited the new city of Stirling; and gave a Reception in the Palace of Holyroodhouse
25 May The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, attended the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Edinburgh, and gave a Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse
26 May The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, attended the General Assembly Service, St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh
27 May The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited Isle of Skye; attended Lunch at Stornoway, Isle of Lewis; and attended a tea party at Wick, Caithness
28 May The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited 'Aberdeen - Our City' Jubilee Celebration, Duthie Park, Aberdeen, and visited the Scottish Parliament, sitting at King's College, Aberdeen University. The Queen opened The Space, Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, Dundee, while The Duke of Edinburgh visited Dundee University's Wellcome Trust Biocentre. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended a Reception at City Chambers, Dundee
29 May The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited Lauder, Scottish Borders; visited Melrose Abbey; attended a lunch hosted by Scottish Borders Council; and attended Borders Gathering, Melrose Rugby Club

4 June The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended a lunch hosted by the Lord Mayor and the Corporation of London at Guildhall in the City of London
4 June The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended the Golden Jubilee Festival in the Mall
4 June The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh made a balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace and watched an RAF fly-past
6 June The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited North London. The Queen visited a bus depot in Brent to meet and thank employees working through the Golden Jubilee Central Weekend.  The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited Barnet to view a parade representing North London communities. The Queen and The Duke then attended a reception at the Alexandra Palace in Haringey for local communities, before returning to Central London for a garden party at Lambeth Palace.

11 June The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited a Crafts Exhibition and Fair at Beaumaris Castle, Anglesey; attended a Thanksgiving Service at Bangor Cathedral; attended Lunch hosted by the National Trust Wales and the Chairman Gwynedd County Council at Penrhyn Castle; and attended Jubilee Sports event, Colwyn Bay
12 June The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended Powys Picnic, Dolau; opened improvement works and new lock at Burry Port Harbour, Llanelli; opened the Millennium Coastal Park, Llanelli; attended Lunch hosted by Camarthenshire County Council; visited Carmarthenshire Enterprise Day - Business Exhibition; and attended Festival of Youth and Community Service, Margam Park
13 June The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh drove through the shopping centre of Bridgend; attended Welcome to the Valleys at Treorchi, Rhondda Valley; visited Heritage Park, Trehafod, Porth; attended Lunch hosted by Newport County Borough Council; visited the National Assembly of Wales; and attended Reception hosted by Cardiff City Council
