Q: T.N. Waters - United States of America
I know HRH Princess Margaret and Diana, Princess of Wales both had apartments in Kensington Palace. Since their passing, what has become of their apartments, and do any other members of the Royal Family reside at Kensington Palace?

Members of the Royal Family currently residing at Kensington Palace are The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester; Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester; The Duke and Duchess of Kent; and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

The Queen pays rent for the latter in recognition of their work in support of the Monarchy and various charities which Prince and Princess Michael of Kent have undertaken at their own expense. This money is paid to the Grant-in-Aid for the maintenance of the Occupied Royal Palaces.

The apartment used by Princess Margaret is now administered by the Historic Royal Palaces, a self-funding charitable trust. The apartment's rooms are to be used as an education centre and exhibition space.

Parts of the apartment used by Diana, Princess of Wales, have been converted to flats used by staff who pay rent at the appropriate levels set by the Treasury, whilst some of the other rooms are being used by the Royal Archives. An appropriate use of the main rooms in the Princess's apartment has yet to be decided.

What are the rules for holding a Royal Warrant? Specifically, after a Royal person dies, does a business have to remove their Royal Warrant? I have noticed that Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother's Warrant is still being used more than a year after her death.

Royal Warrants of appointment are granted only by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Prince of Wales (and Queen Elizabeth before her death).

To be eligible, an executive director or partner must be able to show that his business has supplied a substantial amount of goods or services to the Royal Household for a period of not less than five consecutive years.

Those warrants granted by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother may be kept on products until 31 December 2007, in recognition of the time and expense involved in removing the Warrant as a result of the death.

Royal Warrants of this kind are administered by the Royal Warrant Holders Association. Visit the web site of the Royal Warrant Holders Association.

If The Queen had a last name, what would it be?

Although The Queen does not need to use a surname in everyday life, there have been occasions where she has needed a last name. On joining the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) during the Second World War, for example, she enlisted as Second Subaltern Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, No. 230873. In 1952, The Queen declared that she and her children would be styled and known as the House of Windsor.

Should letters to Prince Harry be addressed to Clarence House or St. James's Palace? And what is the exact address? I'm also clueless as to how to go about addressing the letter. His Royal Highness Prince Henry Charles Albert David Windsor?

Letters should be addressed to Clarence House, London SW1A IBA. You can address your letter as formally as you like, but 'Dear Prince Harry' would suffice.

What type of car is used on State occasions?

For official duties - providing transport for State and other visitors as well as The Queen herself - there are nine State limousines, consisting of two Bentleys, four Rolls-Royces and three Daimlers. These are housed in the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace. The choice of car depends on the nature of the visit.
