BACKGROUND

Her Royal Highness Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester was the widow of the late Duke of Gloucester, third son of George V, and the mother of the present Duke of Gloucester.

Princess Alice had a rich and eventful life, spanning almost the whole of the twentieth century. In her early years, she travelled widely in Africa and India. On her marriage to Prince Henry, she took up a life of Royal service, undertaking extensive official duties over almost seventy years. In her widowhood she continued her Royal service, supported by the love of her family. She is survived by her son, The Duke of Gloucester.
