Queen Victoria took a personal interest in the welfare of the sick and wounded soldiers and wished to try to improve the day to day living of those in hospital. Here is a list of articles ordered to be sent to the care of Miss Nightingale. The Queen asked for reading matter and items such as soap and beef tea to be sent to Scutari hospital, where soldiers were arriving from the Crimea and where Florence Nightingale and her nurses were working to improve the sanitary conditions. |
