The Cavalry, Church Parade, 1855, by Roger Fenton.
During the winter of 1854-55 the allied troops were camped on the heights overlooking Sebastopol. Fenton's photograph of the encampment of the British Cavalry shows the open, windswept terrain, which offered little shelter from the elements. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were patrons of Fenton, and provided him with letters of introduction to Lord Raglan and other officers.
