Photograph of the leaning tower of Pisa

This photograph of the leaning tower of Pisa, taken (by T. Carr) in 1854, is part of an album of contemporary photographs compiled for Prince Albert. The Prince provided great encouragement in the early years of photography, commissioning numerous photographs of people, family activities, events, buildings and works of art. He had travelled in Italy in 1838 and 1839, shortly before his marriage to Queen Victoria
