Parts of the 'Tor Paterno' shown in this drawing survive on the presidential estate of Castelporziano on the coast south of Ostia. It was erected as a bath building in the second century; the central tower was a later addition. The drawing was made for the Roman collector Cassiano dal Pozzo in the early seventeenth century. At the time it was thought (erroneously) that the building was identifiable with Pliny the Younger's Laurentine Villa
