This photograph appeared in the Reports of the Juries of the Great Exhibition of 1851. It records one of the two 'model houses' erected in Hyde Park by the Society for Improving the Condition of the Working Classes; the houses were designed by Henry Roberts, the Society's architect. Each house was intended to accommodate four families. The houses were provided with running water and internal sanitation, and their construction was simple, robust and economical. Prince Albert was closely involved in their design.
