In 1805 the landscape gardener Humphry Repton was invited by the future George IV to submit designs for the garden of his seaside home, the Brighton Pavilion. Repton's ideas were published in 1808 but were never implemented; the architect John Nash was instead employed to design both the garden and the Pavilion. This view shows the garden before improvement. For the proposed garden transformation, after the 'flaps' over the illustration have been raised, see the next image.
