Photograph album given to Queen Victoria and Price Albert by Baron James de Rothschild

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert received this magnificent photograph album as a souvenir of their visit to France in 1855. One of a limited edition of 25 produced at the time, the majority of the photographs that it contains were taken by the great French photographer Edouard-Denis Baldus. They record landmarks on the route of the Chemin de Fer du Nord, by which the royal party travelled between Boulogne and Paris. The album was a gift from Baron James de Rothschild, President of the Railway Corporation.
