Queen Victoria delighted in drawing and sketching throughout her life. On this drawing of the 'Soldiers of the Band of the 24 Leger', the Queen noted that it was 'Sketched from my window at the Chateau d'Eu' on 6 September 1843, in the course of the Queen's first-ever foreign visit. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were the guests of the French King Louis-Philippe and his wife Queen Marie-Amélie.
