Queen Victoria collected and commissioned watercolour records of her travels from both professional artists and (as here) accomplished amateurs. This watercolour of the Château d'Eu was painted by her Lady-in-Waiting Lady Canning at the time of the royal visit to Eu in September 1843. It shows one of the char-à-bancs (literally, wagons with benches) in which the royal party travelled around the park and forest of Eu.
