The national anthem of the United States of America was played on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace following 11 September 2001, to mark the tragic events in the U.S.. It was the first time that any national anthem apart from the United Kingdom has ever been played by the band taking part in the Changing of the Guard. The Queen fully approved the decision to make such a gesture.
