The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) takes to the skies in his first flight in 1918. The Prince later went on to gain his pilot's licence and, as King, to form The King's Flight in 1936. After a flight in 1918, the Prince wrote to his mother, Queen Mary, "It really is the safest thing in the world, far safer than motoring!"
