12 May - The Queen and Prince Philip visit the European Parliament and the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France. The Queen addresses a Special Session of the European Parliament.

27 July - The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attend a dinner in London given by The Queen's past and present prime ministers to mark the 40th anniversary of her Accession.

28 July - The Queen visits the Royal British Legion poppy factory in Richmond in its 70th anniversary year.

20 November - Fire breaks out at Windsor Castle in The Queen's Private Chapel, causing damage to apartments including St. George's Hall, the Grand Reception Room, the Private Chapel and the State Dining Room. Fortunately, no one is hurt.
