FINAL RESTING PLACE
After the funeral the coffin of The Queen Mother was taken to St George's Chapel, Windsor, for a private Committal Service. Whilst the coffin moved up The Mall there was a fly-past by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
The coffin was received at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, by the Dean of Windsor, The Right Reverend David Conner. Later, Queen Elizabeth's coffin and Princess Margaret's casket were interred in a private Service of Committal in King George VI's Memorial Chapel, St. George's Chapel.
The inscription on the burial stone, which originally read, 'George VI' was amended to read:
George VI 1895-1952 Elizabeth 1900-2002 The flowers on the coffin of Queen Elizabeth were later taken back to Westminster Abbey, where they were laid on the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.
St George's Chapel is open to visitors throughout the year, as part of the public opening of Windsor Castle. Worshippers may also attend the daily services, which are held at 08.00 and 17.15 from Monday to Saturday and at 10.45, 11.45 and 17.15 on Sunday.
