Role as UK's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment
HRH The Duke of York

After leaving the Royal Navy in 2001, The Duke of York took up a new role as the UK's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.

Working with Government, and in particular, UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), His Royal Highness’s role involves promoting the UK as an attractive inward investment destination for foreign investors; creating more positive business conditions for British businesses investing overseas; and helping UK companies export their products to emerging and established markets.

The Duke is not paid for his trade and investment work. His Royal Highness continues his Royal duties in support of The Queen, his work with the numerous organisations of which he is Patron, and the charities he supports, including Outward Bound.

The Duke's trade and investment role began in October 2001, following a familiarisation programme which involved meetings with business leaders throughout the UK and briefings on the role and work of UK Trade & Investment.

Since then, His Royal Highness has carried out a busy programme of visits. The Duke of York now undertakes more than 500 trade and investment-related engagements annually within the UK, and several overseas trade-related visits each year.

Sir Andrew Cahn, Chief Executive of UK Trade and Investment:

"Since taking on his role as the UK's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, His Royal Highness The Duke of York has brought valuable support and visibility at home and abroad to the UK's activities in promoting international trade and encouraging inward investment.

"The response from the British business community has been very positive. Business leaders who have met The Duke have been impressed by his enthusiasm for the role. He is a real asset in promoting the UK as a place with which to do business."
