The Duchess of Cornwall supports her husband The Prince of Wales in his work and role as Heir to the Throne, and also supports a number of her own charities and organisations in the role of President or Patron.

Since her marriage, Her Royal Highness has travelled widely with The Prince and on her own solo engagements, meeting people from all over the world and all walks of life.

Her Royal Highness has close links to 70 charities and patronages and works to support these organisations in what ever way she can through attending events, writing messages of support and visiting projects.

The Duchess’s patronages include the National Osteoporosis Society, the children’s charity Barnardo’s, Shelterbox and Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres. Recently,

Her Royal Highness has developed a particular focus on literacy and support for victims of rape and sexual assault.

The Duchess, like The Prince, is committed to supporting local food producers and encouraging children to learn more about where food comes from and to eat healthily.

To celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, The Duchess of Cornwall created a competition for schools in the UK, ‘Cook for The Queen’, inviting schools to submit menu suggestions which was served at a reception attended by The Queen at Buckingham Palace in June.

Her Royal Highness was also Patron of the Big Jubilee Lunch, which encouraged communities to come together for lunch parties on Sunday 3 June 2012 during the Diamond Jubilee central weekend.

Her Royal Highness has seven military appointments and, with The Prince, supports the work of the Armed Forces in the UK and overseas whenever possible.

The Duchess became Colonel-in-Chief of The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada in January 2011. The regiment has links with 4th Battalion, The Rifles in the UK of which she is Royal Colonel.

The Duchess has accompanied The Prince on many overseas tours, most recently to South Africa and Tanzania in November 2011, to Norway, Sweden and Denmark in March 2012, and to Canada for the second time in May 2012. Their Royal Highnesses visited Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea in Autumn 2012.

On 9 April 2012, Buckingham Palace announced that The Queen had appointed The Duchess of Cornwall to be a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO).
