The Crimson Drawing Room

The Crimson Drawing Room was severely damaged in the 1992 fire when the ceiling collapsed and the walls were badly burnt. The steel roof structure expanded in the intense heat and pushed out the eastern wall overlooking the garden, threatening the entire façade with collapse. The restored ceiling incorporates many salvaged fragments from the original whilst the parquet floor was damaged beyond repair in the fire and was entirely replaced.

The walls are hung with portraits of George IV’s siblings and the State Portraits of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth by Sir Gerald Kelly, painted at Windsor during the Second World War.
