The Royal Household

There are five main Departments of the Royal Household who all work together to ensure the overall aims and objectives of the organisation are achieved. These Departments are:

The Private Secretary’s Office which organises The Queen’s official programme, co-ordinates Royal Travel, handles media relations, undertakes official correspondence and manages records and archives.

The Privy Purse and Treasurers Office includes many of the organisation’s support functions, such as: Finance, Human Resources, IT and Telecoms, Internal Audit and Property Services.

The Master of the Household’s Department provides catering, hospitality and housekeeping for official State purposes as well as for individual members of the Royal Family.

The Lord Chamberlain’s Office organises ceremonial events and the distribution of honours, and includes the Royal Mews.

The Royal Collection is custodian of Royal art and artefacts, and organises the opening of the Royal residences to the public.

Some employees have the opportunity to travel with The Queen on overseas visits and during The Queen’s visits to her private residences at Balmoral Castle and Sandringham House.
