The Privy Purse and Treasurer’s Office includes many of the organisation’s support functions.

The Finance section is responsible for the financial management of the public funding granted to the Royal Household in the form of the Civil list and Grants-in-aid (Property Section and Royal Travel) and the financial operations of the Royal Collection.

The Information Systems Management and Telecommunications section is responsible for developing and delivering Information Technology and Telecommunications solutions to all Royal Household locations.

The Personnel Office provides both a strategic and tactical resource to support the Household’s achievement of its aims and objectives.

Internal Audit undertakes value for money studies and reviews risk management, control and governance arrangements across all Royal Household Departments.

The Property Section is comprised of a team of highly skilled property professionals who are responsible for the maintenance of The Queen’s official residences and for other properties within the Royal Estates.

The section prides itself on the achievement of exceptional standards by integrating traditional building techniques with modern services, and also strives to be a centre of excellence offering advice on the upkeep of historic buildings.

The Property Section also incorporates Health and Safety, the Royal Gardens and Fire Surveillance.

The Keeper of the Privy Purse and Royal Finances
The Keeper of the Privy Purse is Head of the Privy Purse and Treasurer’s Office and has overall responsibility for the management of the sovereign’s financial affairs.

He/she looks after the management of revenues which come to the Sovereign from the Duchy of Lancaster.

The Privy Purse, mainly financed by the net income from the Duchy, is used to meet both official expenditure incurred by The Queen as Sovereign and private expenditure.

As Treasurer to The Queen, the Keeper also oversees the management of the Civil List.

This is the money paid from public funds to meet official expenditure relating to The Queen’s duties as Head of State.

He/she oversees the Grants-in-Aid from Government Departments for the maintenance of the occupied Royal Palaces and for Royal travel. Annual accounts are published for the Grants-in-Aid and Civil List.

The Keeper is also responsible for the Court Post Office, which processes the thousands of letters sent out on official business from Buckingham Palace and the other Royal residences.

The current Keeper of the Privy Purse is Sir Alan Reid who was appointed to his role in 2002.
