The Private Secretary's Office

In addition to the three Private Secretaries and their immediate support staff, the Private Secretary’s Office has a number of other sections.

The Press Office acts as the main link between the Royal Family and the world's journalists and broadcasters. The Press Office also maintains the Royal website and has a public information officer to handle information enquiries from the general public.

The Secretariat provides research, policy and planning support across the full range of the Department’s remit as well as in support of other Households and Departments. The team assists in the planning of The Queen’s programme and is responsible for “themed receptions”, which have recently included both a Diamond Jubilee Reception and a British Olympians and Paralympians Reception at Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Travel Office organises and co-ordinates Royal travel by air and sea.

The Correspondence and Anniversaries Office handles the 300 pieces of incoming mail from the general public each day, and also deals with congratulatory messages sent by The Queen to members of the public for special birthdays and anniversaries.

Records Management is responsible for providing advice on records-keeping systems to ensure that the Royal Household and Private Estates meet operational, legislative and historical requirements.

The Royal Archives are responsible for preserving the official and personal archives of the Sovereign and of Members of The Royal Family, the administrative records of the Royal Household and private estates and for ensuring these are made available to Members of the Royal Family, internal departments and the general public.
