The Princess Royal and her daughter Zara Phillips are well-known for competing professionally in three-day eventing. Her Royal Highness’s first major event was Badminton in 1971, where she was placed fifth on her horse Doublet. Later that year, the pair won the European Championship at Burghley. The Princess went on to compete in numerous international events, most notably the 1976 Olympic games in Montreal.

Zara Phillips has also enjoyed success as an event rider on her horse Toytown. She won individual and team gold at the 2005 European Eventing Championship in Blenheim and individual gold and team silver medals at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.

The Duchess of Cornwall takes a keen and knowledgeable interest in horses and enjoys riding in her spare time. She has bred horses herself and keeps three, Molly, Willie and Bearskin, at the Highgrove Estate. The horses take part in showjumping, showing, general riding and cross-country trialling. Her Royal Highness often attends equestrian events as a spectator.
