Queen and Jamaica

The Queen has visited Jamaica six times during her reign.

The Queen's first visit to the island was in November 1953, during the first Commonwealth tour of her reign.

In March 1966 The Queen visited Jamaica again during her Caribbean tour. The same year The Duke of Edinburgh returned to open the eighth British Empire and Commonwealth Games.

The Queen and the Duke visited Jamaica again in April 1975, coinciding with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kingston.

In February 1983 The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh made another visit, during which The Queen opened the Jamaican Parliament in the 21st anniversary year of independence.

In 1994 The Queen visited Jamaica during a tour of the Caribbean which also took in Anguilla, Dominica, Guyana, Belize, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas and Bermuda.

The Queen's most recent visit to Jamaica was in 2002, as part of her Golden Jubilee celebrations. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended a special session of Parliament at Gordon House, Kingston, and toured Montego Bay.

Other members of the Royal Family are also regular visitors. Recent visitors include The Prince of Wales in 2000, The Earl of Wessex, who visited in 2003 and The Princess Royal in 2005, who visited Save the Children Fund projects on the island.
