THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS ISSUED BY THE PRESS SECRETARY TO THE QUEEN

The Queen has appointed Dr Edward Perkins to be an Assistant Press Secretary to Her Majesty.

Dr Perkins, who will also act as Press Secretary to The Duke of York, will take up his appointment at the end of August.

Cambridge graduate Dr Perkins, who is 32, is currently Assistant Editor of the ITN Evening News. He has worked as News Producer for the BBC and a Business and Economics Producer for ITV.
