Armed Forces Day, 27 June 2009

To mark the first ever Armed Forces Day honouring serving members of the Armed Forces and veterans, The Queen will visit the The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards at Redford Barracks and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will attend the Armed Forces Day National event at Chatham Historic Dockyard, Chatham.

Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, President of India, will pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom from Tuesday, 27th October to Thursday, 29th October 2009.

Her Majesty has sent the following message to President Sarkozy of France and President Lula da Silva of Brazil:

'I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Air France flight 447 with 228 people on board. I would like to send my heartfelt sympathy to the families and friends of those who are involved. At this difficult time, all those affected by this tragedy are in our thoughts and prayers. Elizabeth R.'
