The Queen's message following recent flooding throughout the UK, 20 November 2009

Her Majesty sends her thoughts and prayers to all those affected.


Visit to Bermuda and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Trinidad and Tobago by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will visit Bermuda to mark the 400th anniversary of settlement, and will continue to Trinidad and Tobago for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and a State Visit during the period Tuesday 24 November to Saturday, 28 November. This visit will include the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Friday, 27 November.

Tuesday 24 November – Bermuda
The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will arrive at L.F Wade International Airport and receive a Ceremonial Welcome in Kings’ Square, St George. Thereafter the Royal couple will move to the Town Hall to sign the visitor’s book.

In the event of wet weather, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit the Heritage Centre where they will meet local school children.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will attend a reception at Government House in the afternoon, before taking a private dinner in the evening.

Wednesday 25 November – Bermuda
Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will depart the Cabinet Office in an open landau and travel through the streets to the Anglican Cathedral in Hamilton, where they will attend a Thanksgiving Service to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of settlement.

After the Service, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will travel by ferry to the West End Development Corporation where they will view a children’s performance depicting Bermuda through the Ages and a fashion parade of historic clothing. In the afternoon, Her Majesty will officially open a Mural of Bermuda at the Maritime Museum.

In the evening, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will attend a State Banquet.

Thursday 26 November Bermuda / Trinidad

The Queen will plant a tree at Government House before Her Majesty and His Royal Highness depart for Trinidad.

On arrival in Port of Spain, Trinidad, The Queen will be invited to inspect a Guard of Honour before receiving a Salute. The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh will then travel to Memorial Park, arriving to a fanfare. Her Majesty will lay a wreath at the National Memorial.

In the evening, The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh will attend a State Banquet at the President’s House, where both The Queen and President Richards will make speeches.

Friday 27 November – Trinidad/Tobago
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) opening ceremony, where The Queen will make a speech.

The Duke of Edinburgh will undertake a separate programme in Tobago while The Queen is at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. In Tobago, His Royal Highness will view a Coral Cay exhibition, a project on reef preservation and a re-enactment of a traditional Tobago wedding.

In the evening The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh will attend the CHOGM Dinner, where Her Majesty and The Secretary-General of CHOGM will make a speech.

Saturday 28 November - Trinidad
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit Queen’s Hall in Port of Spain where they will view a calypso performance.

In the afternoon Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will attend a drinks reception with local dignitaries.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will then visit the High Commission where they will meet guests and sign a visitor’s book.

In the evening there will be a departure ceremony at Port of Spain airport before Her Majesty and His Royal Highness depart for the UK.

The State Opening of Parliament, 18 November 2009

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will open Parliament.

Service to commemorate the passing of the World War One Generation, 11 November 2009

On 11 November 2009, The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, will attend a Service to commemorate the passing of the World War One Generation in Westminster Abbey.

The Duchess of Gloucester, as Patron of the World War One Veterans Association, will also attend the Service.

Remembrance 2009

On 8 November 2009, The Queen will lead the nation in remembering the war dead during the annual ceremony at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London.

Through this annual event, the nation pays homage to those who died in two world wars and in many other conflicts from the twentieth century to the present. Her Majesty, other members of the Royal Family and leaders of the country's political parties will join representatives of the Armed Forces and ex-servicemen and women for the two-minute silence and the last post.

The Queen will then lay a wreath of poppies at the foot of the Cenotaph, followed by members of the Royal Family, representatives of the political parties and High Commissioners from the Commonwealth. A short religious service will follow. After the reveille and the national anthem, Her Majesty will depart.

The war veterans will then march past the Cenotaph to pay their respects to the fallen.

Members of the Royal Family will also attend the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on 7 November 2009.
